In the past most site clearance operations, whether development sites, road works, pipe lines etc. were a matter of pushing material in to heaps and burning, this is no longer environmentally acceptable. Changes in practice saw the greater development of wood chipping machinery be it small mobile chippers, or larger static and mobile whole tree chippers. These are often slow, expensive and do not have the ability to deal with roots and stumps Next came the greater use of large HP shredders and tub grinders, able to cope with roots and stumps albeit some what slowly and with out the ability to deal with contamination, which is often associated with site clearance works and the shredding of stumps. Some companies have experimented with insitue, high horse power stump grinders, either tractor or excavator mounted, these are still slow and lack the reliability of our final development in the history of vegetation clearance.
Since 1999 MJM have undertaken site and vegetation clearance using a number of high horse power tracked, forestry mulchers. These have the ability to mulch material large or small, stumps, roots, trunks, move quickly around a site, deal with contaminated material, and even incorporate material in to the top soil. They are far quicker and environmentally friendly than any of the above methods. They need very little set up time, and can almost begin mulching material as soon as unloaded. |
